Mary Elizabeth Noakes, 81, custodian in high school

Mary Elizabeth Noakes, a longtime custodian at Oakland Mills High School in Howard County, died of respiratory failure April 25 at Genesis Eldercare in Randallstown. She was 81.

Mrs. Noakes, who lived in Dorsey, worked at the school for 15 years before retiring in the early 1980s.

Mary Elizabeth Johnson was born and raised in Howard County, and attended public schools. She formerly worked at the old Dickey Mill in Dickeyville and at Friendship Airport, now Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

In 1959, she married Charles Gilbert Noakes, a federal government worker. He died in 1994.

She was a member of the Ladies Society Club of Elkridge and St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church in Catonsville.

Services were held Wednesday.

Mrs. Noakes is survived by her son, Anthony G. Noakes Sr. of Catonsville, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
