Ann DeSales Ring, 84, Orphans' Court judge

Ann DeSales Ring, a former judge of the Orphans' Court for Howard County and homemaker, died of stroke complications Monday at St. Agnes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ellicott City. She was 84.

Ann DeSales Knecht was born in Baltimore and raised in Halethorpe. A graduate of Mount deSales Academy in Catonsville, she married Joseph E. Ring in the early 1940s. He died in 1987.

A Democrat and member of the Democratic Club of Howard County, Mrs. Ring was elected to the Orphans' Court in 1974 and served until 1982.

She enjoyed travel and reading.

Mrs. Ring was a member of Roman Catholic Church of the Resurrection, Paulskirk Drive and Chatham Road in Ellicott City, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday.

She is survived by three sons, J. Michael Ring of Ellicott City, Joseph D. Ring of State College, Pa., and James A. Ring of Boston; four brothers, Michael Knecht, Daniel Knecht and John Knecht, all of Baltimore, and Martin Knecht of Shrewsbury, Pa.; two sisters, Alice Jarboe of Ellicott City and Rita Moxley of Baltimore; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
