BOYS

Kyle Batton

Dulaney, lacrosse

The junior attackman has emerged as the most potent player on the two-time reigning Class 4A-3A state champion Lions, who are ranked 10th in the metro area.

Batton, the team's second-leading scorer last season, scored 24 goals in three games last week. He collected nine goals and two assists in a 19-4 victory over Eastern Tech; seven goals and an assist in a 19-4 rout of then-No. 12 Fallston; and eight goals and an assist in an 18-7 win over Hereford.

The three-year varsity starter leads Dulaney in goals (43) and total points (56). Batton has drawn interest from several college programs, including North Carolina and Virginia.

GIRLS

Karen Long

Mount Hebron, lacrosse

One of many offensive standouts on the area's No. 1 girls lacrosse team, Long scored four goals and contributed three assists to a 20-9 victory over No. 7 Notre Dame Prep last week.

In a game much closer than the final score indicated, Long scored on every shot she took and also won five ground balls. Later in the week, the junior recorded two goals and two assists in a 31-0 victory over Atholton.

For the season, Long has 21 goals, nine assists, 31 ground balls and six take-aways for a team that has won five straight state championships and is considered one of the top teams in the nation this season.
