Rep. Robert Ehrlich to speak at luncheon honoring volunteers

Community Advocates for Senior Opportunities and Services will hold its 33rd Salute to Seniors luncheon at noon Tuesday at La Fontaine Bleu, 7514 S. Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie.

Awards will be given to seniors for outstanding volunteer community activities. Rep. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. will speak.

The event is open to the public. The cost is $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

Arthritis: Information on arthritis will be presented by nurse practitioner Jackie Dominick, care coordinator of North Arundel Hospital's Baltimore-Washington Hip and Knee Center, at 10 a.m. May 7 at Pasadena Senior Center. Dominick will discuss the symptoms of arthritis and will describe treatment options. The center is at 4103 Mountain Road. Participants should register by today. 410-222-0030 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Senior trips: South County Senior Center in Edgewater will sponsor a trip to Winterthur Museum and Gardens and Wyeth House and Studio in Delaware on Friday. Senior center membership ($10 a year) is required. 410-222-1927 or 410-798- 4802.

Prescription resources: Greg Danylyk, a pharmacy student at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, will discuss prescription benefit resources available to uninsured people at 10 a.m. today at O'Malley Senior Center. The program is for senior citizens with limited incomes. A number of drug companies and private organizations offer free or discounted medicine to qualified recipients. Senior showcase: Anne Arundel Historical Society is planning a bus trip to the Essex Community College theater May 19 to see Senior Star Showcase. The show, a tribute to veterans, will include dance routines and spiritual, jazz, country and Broadway music. The bus will leave Benson-Hammond House at 1 p.m. The cost (including transportation) is $15. Reservations: 410-859-3440.

Trips: Annapolis Senior Center, 1027 Bay Ridge Ave., has released its trip schedule. Trips include Gettysburg, May 18; Atlantic City, June 13; a boat ride to St. Michaels, July 15; Red Roost crab feast, Aug. 13; Sight and Sound Dinner Theater, Sept. 11; Western Maryland train trip, Oct. 22; Dutch Apple Dinner Theater, Nov. 7; and Christmas in Williamsburg, Dec. 3 to 5. 410-222-1818.

Caregivers conference: "Caregiving: Meeting the Challenges," the 10th annual caregivers conference sponsored by the county Department of Aging, the Central Maryland chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and Anne Arundel Community College, will be held May 10 at the college.
