Ruth W. Ewell, 99, elementary school teacher

Ruth W. Ewell, who taught at Robert Poole Elementary School in Hampden for 40 years, died April 21 of a heart attack at her Parkville home. She was 99.

Born and raised in Hampden, Ruth White graduated from Western High School in 1921 and later from Baltimore Teacher's Training School.

She taught grades three through eight at Robert Poole until her retirement in 1963.

She was an active parishioner of the former Grace Hampden United Methodist Church, where she taught adult religious education for 20 years. She also attended Dickinson College, where she received a diploma as a teacher of religious education.

She married William H. Ewell in 1934. He died in 1982.

She enjoyed reading, traveling and genealogy.

Services for Mrs. Ewell will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 38th Street and Roland Avenue.

Mrs. Ewell is survived by a nephew, Charles S. White of Arnold; three nieces, Valerie A. Geiselman of Parkville, Judith Krauss of Charlotte, N.C., and Joyce Riffe of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
