Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza, 81, a Swiss aristocrat, jet-setter and billionaire industrialist who amassed the world's largest private collection of art, died yesterday.

He died of a heart attack at his home in Sant Feliu de Guixols, north of Barcelona, the Thyssen Museum in Madrid said in a written statement.

Thyssen's collection featured some 1,500 paintings, sculptures and other works, a third of it acquired by his father, Heinrich, who eschewed 20th-century art.
