Vision 2030 panel to hold meeting for regional plan

The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board will hold a public meeting in Carroll County to discuss Vision 2030, a blueprint for the future of the region.

Vision 2030 is commissioned by the mayors of Annapolis and Baltimore, and elected officials from Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties.

The report, drawing upon ideas from citizens, will map a plan for the future of the region, and discuss how government, businesses and citizens can work together to achieve the goals of the plan.

The meeting will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Sykesville Middle School, 7301 Springfield Ave. Registration starts at 6:30 p.m.

Participants will break into small groups to discuss topics that affect the lives of residents and employees.

County tourism council to publish visitors guide

The Tourism Council of Carroll County and Diversions Publications will publish a new visitors guide, Visit Carroll County in July.

The magazine-style publication will serve as the official guide to the county and its incorporated towns, featuring maps, information on historic sites, attractions, parks, lodging, restaurants, shopping and more.

Local businesses are encouraged to advertise in the guide.

The council plans to print more than 100,000 copies of Visit Carroll County.

County family club plans theater trips

The Carroll County Family Community Education Club will sponsor bus trips this year.

Available trips are:

June 26: Dutch Apple Theater in Lancaster, Pa., to see Carousel. The bus will leave at 10 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. The cost is $58. Reservations are required by May 31.

Aug. 8: Three Little Bakers in Wilmington, Del., to see a 50th anniversary presentation of Singin' in the Rain. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. and return at 7 p.m. The cost is $62. Reservations are required by May 25.

Nov. 14: Special Delivery on Angel Street. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. and return at 3:30 p.m. The cost is $58.

All buses will leave from the Carroll County Agriculture Center in Westminster. Tips and gratuities are included in the cost.

Carroll County group to sponsor prayer events

The Carroll County group for National Day of Prayer will sponsor events around the county Thursday.

Activities include:

Sheriff's Prayer Breakfast: 7 a.m. at Wilhelm Ltd. Catering, Route 140, Westminster. Information: 410-386-2006.

Noon Prayer Rally: Hampstead park near St. John's United Methodist Church on Main Street.

Noon Prayer Rally: Watkins Park, Route 27 and Watersville Road, Mount Airy.

Noon Prayer Rally: Carroll County Courthouse, Vietnam Memorial Park, Willis Street.

Evening Prayer Rally: 7 p.m. at Westminster Senior Center, 125 Stoner Ave. Music by SuperUnknown will be featured.

Evening Prayer Rally: 7 p.m. South Carroll High School, 1300 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.

New Windsor center to offer travel programs

The New Windsor Conference Center will hold an Elderhostel program from May 19 to May 24 at Brethren Service Center.

Programs will be offered in "Amish Society in Transition" and "Appalachian Culture." A field trip to Lancaster, Pa., and dinner at an Amish homestead will be included.

Elderhostel is an educational and travel organization for adults age 55 and older. The Brethren Conference Center houses six charitable organizations that work in social justice, hospitality, peace-education and disaster response worldwide.
