How can anyone resist a band in which members' tresses share equal billing with their music? Practice Finger, acclaimed as the local Baltimore band with the best hair, is one of several musical groups that will entertain audience members Thursday during a benefit concert for Link, a critical journal of the arts.

The event, which begins at 9 p.m. at The Ottobar, 2549 N. Howard St., will showcase Baltimore's best young musical talent. In addition to Practice Finger, which also is acclaimed for its instrumental stylings, the participating bands include: Cutter / Hammer, known for its polyrhythmic rock improvisations; Monad and its psychedelic musical trip; and The Long Drive Home, which will add an acoustic flavor to the evening with ballads of love and loss.

Proceeds will benefit the fall issue of Link, which will examine the book both as an aesthetic and intellectual object in the digital era.

Tickets to the benefit cost $10 for the general public and $7 for students. For information about the event, visit www.theottobar.com or call 410-662-0069.
