Three people were killed yesterday afternoon in a three-car crash on Route 272 in Cecil County, state police said.

Just before 1:30 p.m., a 1994 Plymouth Sundance, driven by Joseph John Anderson, 68, of the 200 block of Old Zion Road in North East, was traveling north on Route 272 in Calvert when it slowed to turn into a convenience store and was hit from behind by a 1998 Chevrolet Astrovan, said Sgt. John Blades of the North East barracks.

Jean Elizabeth Anderson, 68, Anderson's wife and a passenger in the Plymouth, was flown to Christiana Trauma Center in Wilmington, Del., where she was pronounced dead, Blades said.

After the Plymouth was hit, it collided with a 1999 Honda Accord headed south. The driver and passenger in that vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names had not been released late yesterday because relatives had not been notified, Blades said.

The driver of the van, Jeffrey Scott Wilkerson, 36, of the first block of Roberts Way in North East, was admitted to Christiana Trauma Center with minor head injuries, Blades said. Joseph Anderson, who suffered a broken hip and dislocated shoulder, also was admitted.
