Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. of Baltimore will receive $146 million to widen roads and construct pedestrian skywalks at Baltimore-Washington International Airport under a contract approved yesterday.

The state Board of Public Works approved the contract, the largest to date in a $1.8 billion airport expansion program.

Construction of three enclosed skywalks with moving walkways linking the airport garage to terminals will begin next month. Work to add two lanes for vehicles and improve the curbside waiting area will begin next year. The project is scheduled for completion in 2006.
