Boy who gave out pills is charged

April 25, 2002|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A 12-year-old male pupil at Holabird Middle School in Dundalk was charged with unlawful distribution of prescription medication on school property after he brought in seven pills believed to be Viagra and gave them to two other pupils, Baltimore County police said.

One of the two pupils ingested the prescription drug and was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center as a precaution. He was unharmed, police said.

The two pupils who received the pills, both 13, were charged with unlawful possession of a prescription drug, police said. All three pupils were released into their parents' custody after being charged Tuesday.

Charles Herndon, spokesman for Baltimore County public schools, would not comment specifically on the case. He did say the school system considered the incident to be in Category Three of the school's discipline and behavior code, and that "the school did take appropriate disciplinary action."

Category Three offenses at county schools result in automatic suspension with a recommendation for expulsion.
