`Mary Poppins' flies into town

She travels by umbrella, is fond of exceptionally long words and knows that a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down. She's Mary Poppins, magical nanny extraordinaire. And this weekend and next weekend, you can catch Pumpkin Theatre's presentation of the musical comedy Mary Poppins at the Hannah More Arts Center in Stevenson.

Baltimore playwright David Rawlings Brown adapted the classic P.L. Travers Mary Poppins stories for this musical presentation. Nancy Parrish Asendorf stars as the title character. Baltimore Shakespeare Festival director James Kinstle stars as the chimney sweep Bert. Also in the cast are Dana Whipkey, Nan Kaestner, Beth Weber, Molly Massa, Joshua Siems, Paul Wissman, Scott Woltz, Jonathan Jackson, Tammy Crisp, Shannon Cusack and Melanie Hopkins. Todd Pearthree directs and choreographs the shows.

"Mary Poppins" will be presented at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday and May 5 and at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. May 4 at the Hannah More Arts Center, St. Timothy's School for Girls, 8400 Greenspring Ave., Stevenson. $10. Call 410-828-1814.
