METS: Announced they have purchased the contract of P Pete Walker from Triple-A Norfolk. Optioned P Tyler Yates to Norfolk.

PADRES: Purchased contract of P Matt DeWitt from Triple-A Portland. Designated P Juan Moreno for assignment.

RANGERS: Optioned P John Rocker to Triple-A Oklahoma.

TIGERS: Placed IF Damion Easley on 15-day DL with pulled left oblique muscle. Recalled OF Craig Monroe from Triple-A Toledo.

YANKEES: Signed P Bill Pulsipher to minor-league contract.

Basketball

NBA: Suspended Hawks G Jason Terry one game without pay and fined him $10,000 for throwing punch at and fighting with Magic F Don Reid in game April 16. Suspended Reid one game and fined him $7,500 for fighting with Terry.

CELTICS: Signed G Omar Cook.

MAGIC: Placed C Patrick Ewing on injured list with strep throat and replaced him on roster with G Jeryl Sasser.

76ERS: Placed F Corie Blount on injured list with right knee contusion. Activated F Damone Brown.

BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES: Announced Big East Commissioner Mike Tranghese will assume BCS coordinator duties for next two years through April 2004.

AIR FORCE ACADEMY: Suspended junior Brian Labasco indefinitely from the baseball and football teams.

ALABAMA-BIRMINGHAM: Named Chris Giles, Scott Edgar and Matt Zimmerman assistant basketball coaches.

BALL STATE: Announced that junior F Theron Smith will make himself eligible for the NBA draft.

DePAUL: Named Dave Leitao men's basketball coach.

FRANKLIN PIERCE: Named Mark Swasey women's basketball coach.

MEMPHIS: Announced freshman G Dajuan Wagner will make himself available for the NBA draft.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE: Announced F Daniel Weaver, G Kenny Johnson and F Drew DeMond are leaving the men's basketball team.

TENNESSEE: School admonished football coach Phillip Fulmer and forfeited two scholarships for rules violations involving a former player.

TOWSON: Signed Latanya West, a 5-7 guard who has played basketball in Germany for the last eight years, to a national letter of intent. Sophomore P Beth Wilcox named Colonial Athletic Association softball pitcher of the week.

WOFFORD: Named Ed Wyant women's basketball coach.

BILLS: Signed free-agent LB Eddie Robinson, who had been with Titans. Acquired WR Charlie Rogers from Texans for LB Jay Foreman.

BUCCANEERS: Signed free-agent TE Ken Dilger, who had been with Colts, to three-year contract.

LIONS: Signed unrestricted free-agent TE Mikhael Ricks.

PANTHERS: Signed CB Fred Vinson. Waived RB Terrell Willis.

RAMS: Agreed to terms with P Mitch Berger on one-year contract.
