Key names Baugher football coach

High School

Keeping the job in-house, Francis Scott Key yesterday named former assistant John Baugher as its new head football coach. Baugher replaces Dave Dolch, who earlier this month accepted the head coaching job at St. Paul's.

Baugher, also the school's varsity lacrosse coach, becomes Key's third coach in as many years.

"Rather than re-open it, we narrowed it down to just in-house candidates," Key Principal Randy Clark said. "We felt we had several extremely strong candidates right here."

Dolch also was adamant about giving one of his assistants the chance to climb the ladder.

"I really believe that have a successor to the program is extremely important," Dolch said last week.

Key was 7-3 last year under Dolch, after going 9-2 under Mike Coons in 2000. Prior to that, the team hadn't had a winning season since 1976.
