Goucher rallies to win CAC opener, 8-7

Phil Anthony and Max Agee each scored twice as Goucher edged host Marymount, 8-7, in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference men's lacrosse tournament yesterday.

The Gophers will travel to Salisbury for Thursday's second-round matchup. The Sea Gulls defeated the Gophers in last year's conference final, 16-4.

Down 5-2 midway through the second quarter against Marymount, the Gophers (8-5) went on a six-goal run before the Saints (6-8) scored with 5:20 remaining in the fourth quarter to make the score 8-6.

Marymount scored with 50 seconds remaining, but Goucher held on.

The Saints were led by Nick Hathaway with two goals.

St. Mary's 15, Catholic 4: Andrew Touissant scored two goals and added four assists as the Seahawks (5-8) handled the visiting Cardinals in the first round of the CAC tournament.

St. Mary's advances to the tournament's second round to meet Mary Washington, a 9-8 winner over York.

Greg Scagliotti and Kevin Whalen each had three goals and two assists.
