White Sox update

The Chicago White Sox just swept a two-game series from the Detroit Tigers, which apparently is not much of an accomplishment but nevertheless allowed the Sox to even their record at 4-4. They have averaged six runs per game and rank third in the American League with a .289 team batting average. The pitching staff, which struggled so badly through the spring, has been adequate (4.72 combined ERA), though the number is skewed by the great performance of Buehrle in his first two starts. Only five AL teams had given up more runs entering yesterday's games. Frank Thomas is off to a decent start, with nine RBIs in the club's first eight games, and newcomer Kenny Lofton leads the league with five stolen bases. --Peter Schmuck
