Mildred Carter, 78, homemaker, gardener

April 10, 2002

Mildred Carter, a homemaker who enjoyed entertaining family and friends, died Monday of a heart attack at her Kingsville home. She was 78.

Mildred C. Doelle was raised in East Baltimore and attended public schools. She was married in 1940 to Clarence O. "Bud" Carter, and the couple lived in Kingsville for 50 years.

Mrs. Carter worked briefly as a secretary before she began raising a family. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Because her husband was a hunter and fisherman, she was especially known for her preparation of wild goose, duck and deer, family members said.

She also was an avid gardener and liked visiting Atlantic City, N.J.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Lassahn Funeral Home, 11750 Belair Road, Kingsville.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her husband, a retired auto body repairman; three sons, Clarence L. "Sonny" Carter of Bel Air, Gerald W. Carter of Kingsville and Henry D. Carter of Street; three daughters, Catherine C. Preston and Phyllis L. Carter, both of Bel Air, and Linda A. Evans of Jarrettsville; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
