Devil Rays update

After sweeping three games from Detroit to start the season, Tampa Bay came down to earth in losing three games at Yankee Stadium by a combined score of 14-2. After Sunday's 7-2 defeat, Devil Rays manager Hal McRae said, "Tuesday night will give us a better indication of where we are. We were sort of overmatched here." A year ago, the Orioles claimed the season series against Tampa Bay, 10-9, and the two teams combined to finish 73 games under .500. Catcher Toby Hall was Tampa Bay's leading hitter over the first week, posting a .381 average. Greg Vaughn has yet to hit his first home run and is batting .182. Wilson and Rupe were both impressive in their first starts against Detroit, with Wilson allowing one run in eight innings, and Rupe holding the Tigers scoreless for seven innings on just three hits. Rupe was on a 100-pitch limit and didn't walk a batter while striking out seven.
