Prom -- with all the promise and peril of a bungee jump -- will be here before you know it. Help prepare with pointers from PromAdvice. com, a site developed by California's Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. On it, you'll find all the latest on trends, makeup, hairstyles and accessories and some practical advice for making the most of the biggest social event of high school life. And you can win stuff, too.

Just submit your thoughts on the following in 100 words or less by April 15:

* Accessories -- They can make or break a look. Tell the judges what you'd pair with your gown, and you could win a rhinestone jewelry package.

* Makeup -- Over the top or au naturel? Whatever your preference, tell it to FIDM and you'll be in the running for a big bag of Urban Decay cosmetics.

* Gowns -- What would your ultimate dream dress look like? Write it up and send it off and you could win a sapphire-blue, spaghetti-strapped number (right) from Masquerade and Steppin' Out. -- T. B.

A fashion fiesta

The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland holds a fashion fiesta Thursday at 7 p.m. in Baltimore's Museum of Industry. Spring styles from high-end Pikesville retailer Vasarri (www.vasarri.com) will be shown runway style in the outside pavilion and will skew heavily toward evening wear. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

Reserved-seating tickets sell for $75, but minglers can pick them up for $50. For information, call Jennifer Russ at 410-494-8545. -- T. B.
