A 17-year-old driver was killed and an Ellicott City woman seriously injured after the youth's 1987 Porsche convertible veered into oncoming traffic Friday morning on Homewood Road, near Route 108, Howard County police said.

John Scott Droege of the 11000 block of Oak Spine Court in Ellicott City was pronounced dead at Howard County General Hospital, police said. Droege, a River Hill High School senior, was driving the Porsche at "a high rate of speed" about 9:30 a.m. on northbound Homewood in Ellicott City, police said, when the car crossed the double-yellow line and struck a 1995 Toyota Camry.

The other driver, Susan Bauer of the 3800 block of Jumpers Hill Lane, was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said, where she was listed in serious but stable condition Friday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
