Red Sox update

Practically all of New England is holding its breath, waiting to see how Martinez fares in his next start. The Toronto Blue Jays rocked Martinez for seven runs in three innings in their 12-11 victory on Opening Day. The two teams were rained out Wednesday night, but not before another Boston starting pitcher, Dustin Hermanson, strained his right groin. The Red Sox were already without No. 2 starter John Burkett, who is on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. One Boston player who is healthy, however, is catcher Jason Varitek. He had his second home run of the season negated by Wednesday's rainout after going 3-for-3 on Opening Day. Orioles starter Calvin Maduro (strained right forearm) will likely come off the disabled list to pitch Sunday's game.
