Holocaust survivor, author to speak at church event

St. Andrew the Fisherman Episcopal Church is having a Yom HaShoah commemoration at 2 p.m. May 5 at the church, 1183 Carr's Wharf Road, Edgewater.

Each year a Yom HaShoa, or "commemoration of the Holocaust," is held in late April or early May for people around the world to remember the victims of the Holocaust. This year, to recognize the day St. Andrew is inviting Holocaust survivor Leo Bretholz to speak and answer questions. Bretholz is author of Leap into Darkness: Seven Years on the Run in Wartime Europe.

Church singles group to offer seminar, speaker

The Lighthouse Singles Ministry of Bay Area Community Church, Annapolis, is offering a seminar, "Knowing God's Will," at 7 p.m. April 13 at the office of Bay Area Community Church, 836 Ritchie Highway, Suite 10, Severna Park.

M. Blaine Smith, author of Should I Get Married?, will speak. Lighthouse Singles Ministry invites singles, age 30 and older to attend. Information: 410-544-2222


Thematic study: Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. in Severna Park, is offering a course, "John, A Thematic Study," which will examine the Gospel of John. The course will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sundays starting this week to June 23. Greg Hubert and Tom Page Jr., adult leaders at the church, will teach the course. Information: 410-647-2550.

Yard sale: Chesapeake Christian Center will sponsor a community yard sale and carwash from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 13 at the center, 7975 Tick Neck Road, Pasadena. Information: 410-255-3168.

Church choir: The Adult Choir of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church will perform at 8 p.m. April 19 at the church, 611 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. in Severna Park. Flea market: The Ladies of the Knights of Columbus Monsignor Raymond P. Kelly Council 10966 of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church will hold a flea market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 20 in the church hall, 8513 St. Jane Drive.
