A 38-year-old man has been charged with raping three adolescent girls and is being held without bail at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center in Annapolis.

County police have charged Melvin Rio Robinson, of no fixed address, with one count of first-degree rape, two counts of second-degree rape, four counts of second-degree assault, one count of false imprisonment and one count of kidnapping.

The girls, ages 14, 15 and 16, are from the Odenton area, and the incidents occurred over the past five months, said Officer Charles Ravenell, a county police spokesman.

Police officers arrested Robinson about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 600 block of Resty Lane in Odenton, where he was reported to have been staying.

Ravenell said the sex offense unit began the rape investigation about three weeks ago, after one of the girls contacted police. During the investigation, the two other girls came forward.

He said Robinson is accused of supplying the girls with drugs and alcohol, then forcing them to engage in sexual acts with him.

Ravenell said he could not provide more details about the circumstances of the attacks because the investigation is continuing.
