Archaeology symposium set for Crownsville

The 37th Spring Symposium on Archaeology is scheduled for April 13 at the People's Resource Center, 100 Community Place, Crownsville. The event is sponsored by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development's Office of Archeology and the Archeological Society of Maryland.

Speakers will discuss a variety of topics, including the development of public archaeology in Western Maryland and plans for interpreting the St. John's site at St. Mary's City.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. The cost is $4 for members of the Archaeological Society of Maryland, $6 for nonmembers. Information: 301-982-2854.

Seeking vendors: The Kiwanis Club of Severna Park is seeking vendors for its spring Flea Market/Craft Show scheduled for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 25 at Pasadena United Methodist Church, 61 Ritchie Highway in Pasadena. Family Run/Walk: Walkers and runners can help raise money for Severna Park High School's Parent Teacher Student Organization in the annual Family Fun Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday. Preschool nature hour: Park Ranger Lisa Wolf will lead a one-hour wildlife nature walk for preschoolers at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Earleigh Heights Ranger Station, 51 W. Earleigh Heights Road. A parent, guardian or teacher must attend with the children. Information: 410-222-6244.

Story time: Kinder Farm Park, 1001 Kinder Farm Park Road, is presenting a Wildlife Wonder Storytime for children ages 3 to 5 at 10 a.m. Wednesday and 2 p.m. April 28. Separation/divorce: The YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County is planning workshops about separation and divorce. "Emotional Aspects of Separation and Divorce" will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 11. "Legal Aspects of Separation and Divorce" will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 18. "Practical Aspects of Separation and Divorce" is planned for 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 25. All workshops will be held at the YWCA Building, 1517 Ritchie Highway, Arnold. Gala 2002: The Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce will hold its Gala 2002 from 7 p.m. to midnight April 12 at the Earleigh Heights fire hall, 161 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. Businesses can sponsor a table for $25, and an information table will be set up in the lobby where table sponsors can leave handouts, brochures and other information. Strategic planning: The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is offering a training course, "Strategic Planning for Community Revitalization," at 9 a.m. April 24 at its headquarters, 100 Community Place, Crownsville. The training, designed for local government officials and representatives of nonprofit community-based organizations, will examine how to develop a successful revitalization plan.
