Small business programs topics for Taneytown development panel

Taneytown Economic Development Commission will hold its monthly business breakfast at 7:30 a.m. April 12 at Thunderhead Bowling Center, Routes 140 and 832.

Sandra F. Long, deputy secretary at the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, will discuss "Small Business Incentives and Programs for Small Business."

The cost for breakfast is $5.50, payable at the meeting. Reservations are required by Wednesday.

Music, stories, antiques on the agenda at library

Taneytown library branch, 10 Grand Drive, will offer:

"Year-round Family Story Time" for all ages (age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 11 a.m. today on rabbits and at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on Music, Music, Music.

"Antiques Appraisal Day" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Adults can take two pieces they want appraised by members of the Antiques Dealers Association of Maryland. The cost is $5 per item.

"Bedtime Stories: Music, Music, Music" for all ages (children age 3 and younger with an adult) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. .

Key High School graduate of 1996 enlists in Army

Jorge L. Collins, a 1996 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School, has enlisted in the Army.

He is taking basic training at Fort Knox, Ky.

Collins is the son of Jorge and Caroline Collins of Jacksonville, Fla. He lives in Everett, Wash.

Church of the Brethren to award scholarship

Union Bridge Church of the Brethren will award its 18th annual Joanne Grossnickle Scholarship in July to students in Frederick and Carroll counties.

Applicants must have attended Francis Scott Key, Linganore or Walkersville high schools, or have some relation to the church, which Joanne Grossnickle attended.

Candidates must have completed one year of training beyond high school before being considered for the scholarship. For requirements and instructions for applying, write to Joanne Nancy Grossnickle Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 518, Union Bridge 21791, or call the church, 410-775-2717.

Deadline for applications is June 15.

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran: Worship with Holy Communion will be at 8 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Sunday. Youth Sunday will be observed at the 10:15 a.m. service.
