BOYS

Jason Werner

Severn, lacrosse

The senior attack has become the Admirals' "go-to guy," says coach Jamie McNealey. In four games last week, Werner recorded 21 goals and three assists. He posted four goals in an 11-10 squeaker over then-No. 7 Calvert Hall and two goals and an assist in a 9-7 win over DeMatha. Werner shined in the Andy Eser Memorial Lacrosse Tournament, scoring six goals in a 12-5 rout of Chesapeake and compiling seven goals and two assists in a 16-11 defeat of Archbishop Spalding. He has surpassed last season's mark of 18 goals and an assist with 23 goals and four assists. Werner, who is converting about 80 percent of his shots and has picked up 15 groundballs, will play at Mount St. Mary's next season.

GIRLS

The unbeaten junior right-hander scored victories over three ranked teams last week, allowing just two earned runs in three complete games. She led the No. 4 Cougars to wins over No. 13 Catholic, 2-1, and No. 6 Glen Burnie, 1-0, before defeating host and No. 2 Archbishop Spalding, 2-1, in Saturday's Cavalier Classic. Along the way, she pitched 21 innings and struck out 16 while giving up 15 hits and three walks. Her ERA for the week was 0.67 and for the season, her ERA stands at 0.61. An All-Anne Arundel County selection a year ago, Ettinger finished her sophomore season with a 1.08 ERA and allowed just 11 earned runs while the opposition managed to hit just .108 against her.
