Quilts on display at Manchester's historical center

Manchester Historical Center and Town Council Chambers will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

This month will feature a quilt display. Anyone wishing to show quilts may do so. Registration forms are available in Town Hall during business hours. Information: Mary Schaffer, 410-239-0028.

The historical center also has on display town artifacts and sells items to support projects.

Churches to observe Holy Humor Sunday

Shiloh United Methodist Church of Hampstead and Mount Zion United Methodist of Upperco will observe Holy Humor Sunday on Sunday during worship services.

The Sunday after Easter traditionally has been observed as Low Sunday for the letdown after Easter. The two churches, where the Rev. Richard Brown-Whale serves as pastor, have established the Sunday after Easter as Holy Humor Sunday.

During worship, congregants bring stories and jokes to share. The service is lighthearted and humorous. This Sunday, Peace the Clown will share the message of resurrection joy and other gospel stories. Holy Communion will be offered.

Shiloh UMC worship will be held at 9:30 a.m. at 3100 Shiloh Road, and Mount Zion's at 11 a.m. at 3800 Black Rock Road.

Chad Funk completes Marine survival training

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Chad E. Funk recently completed the Cold Weather Survival School at the Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, Calif., and the nearby Sierra Nevada mountain range.

During training, the class is divided into two-member teams with each team being dropped off at a different location. The course consists of setting traps and snares for food, building snow caves, signal fires and other basic survival skills.

Funk is assigned to the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

He is the son of Dixie Heller of York, Pa., and Doug Funk of Hampstead. The 2000 graduate of North Carroll High School joined the Marine Corps in July 2000.

Golf tournament: North Carroll High School Choral Boosters will hold a golf tournament April 26 at Oakmont Green Golf Course in Hampstead. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. Registration is $80. Deadline for registration is today. Information: 410-239-4229.

Church news
