Suspect sought in convenience store robbery

April 02, 2002

A Westminster--area convenience store was robbed yesterday afternoon by a man with what appeared to be a handgun, according to Maryland State Police at the Westminster barracks.

The man entered a High's dairy store in the 400 block of E. Main St. about 2 p.m., displayed the weapon and left with an undisclosed sum of cash from the clerk, police said. The man fled on foot, police said.

A witness flagged down a passing Carroll County sheriff's deputy. Troopers, deputies and Westminster police, assisted by a helicopter and police dog unit, searched the area for a medium-complexioned black man, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 170 pounds, wearing a gray sweat shirt, blue or black jeans, and a knit ski hat. Anyone with information is asked to call the barracks at 410-386-3000.
