Churches' program collects bikes to rehab, ship to developing nations

Pedals for Progress will collect used bikes from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Community Church in Eldersburg.

The program takes used bicycles and reconditions them for partner agencies in developing countries, which distribute them to poor working adults for transportation.

Pedals for Progress is sponsored by St. Joseph and Wesley Freedom United Methodist churches.

Bicycles in repairable condition only are accepted. Bikes are not taken for parts or if they are disassembled. Also, a donation of $10 is requested toward the $26 it takes to collect, process, ship, rebuild and distribute each bicycle.

Pedals for Progress is a registered charity in Maryland. Donations are tax deductible.

Carrolltown Center to hold dream machines car show

Carrolltown Center will hold its first Dream Machines of Carroll County Car Show at 8 a.m. Saturday, with cars inside and outside the Eldersburg mall.

Those attending can vote for their favorite vehicles until 2 p.m. and the People's Choice Winners will be awarded trophies at 3 p.m.

A 50/50 raffle will be drawn after the trophy presentation. Tickets for other prizes can be purchased during the day.

Penske Auto Center will hold a tent sale with tire discounts, and will provide a moon bounce for children.

Dream Machines of Carroll County is a newly formed street rod and custom car club with 17 members from the region, including Pennsylvania, Glen Burnie and Carroll County. Registrations for new members are accepted any time. A pre-1976 vehicle is required to join. Club information: 410-549- 7680.

Commissioners to attend Republican club meeting

South Carroll Republican Club will meet at 7 p.m. April 9 at Ledo Pizza in Eldersburg.

County Commissioners Julia Walsh Gouge, Donald I. Dell and Robin Bartlett Frazier will attend.

Participants should arrive early and order food between 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Ledo is off Route 32.

Liberty High to present `Cinderella' this month

Liberty High School drama department will present the musical Cinderella April 11-13 and April 18-20 in the school auditorium.

Show times are 7 p.m. each day, with an additional show at 2 p.m. April 20. Tickets are $5 at the door, or $4 in advance through the school.

Health and Fitness Center to offer nutrition classes

Health and Fitness Center in Carrolltown Center will offer classes this spring.

"Dining Out" at 8 p.m. April 15. Registered dietitian Lorraine Giangrandi will offer healthy strategies for dining out.

"Sugar Substitutes - What's the Skinny?" at 8 p.m. April 29. Giangrandi will explain the differences between NutraSweet, Equal and saccharin and how to decide which are best for you.

All classes are held at Health and Fitness in Eldersburg. Registration is required.

Springfield Presbyterian schedules blood drive

Springfield Presbyterian Church will hold a blood drive from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 18.

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be the donation center. Registration will be taken in the church library.

Century High School seeks donation of a field roller

Century High School Athletic Department needs a field roller.

Anyone with an old roller they would like to donate can call Tony Griner at the school, 410-386-4400.

The athletic department will pick up the roller if necessary. The school is on Ronsdale Road near Winfield.
