Church coffeehouse concert slated for Saturday

Cedarhurst Unitarian Universalists Congregation continues its monthly coffeehouses with a concert featuring Doug Alan Wilcox at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Admission is $5. Nonalcoholic drinks and desserts will be available.

The church is at 2912 Clubhouse Road, Finksburg, and is accessible to the disabled.

Sun columnist Reimer to speak at women's club

The Women's Club of Westminster will hold a lecture featuring Susan Reimer, author and columnist for The Sun, at 7 p.m. April 10 at Ascension Episcopal Church.

Desserts will be served as part of the club's annual event.

Tickets are $10. Proceeds will be donated to Carroll County Arts Council's "Create a Masterpiece" campaign.

Library sets discussion of classic children's books

Westminster branch library, 50 E. Main St., will offer:

"Rock `n' Read" for all ages (children age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 6:30 p.m. today.

Book Club for adults at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan.

"Not for Children Only - Children's Classics for Adults" at 7 p.m. Thursday. Local scholars will discuss new and old classics of children's literature. Books will be provided at registration.

Friends of Doug Blye schedule a blood drive

The Friends of Doug Blye will hold a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 14 at the National Guard Armory, 350 Hahn Road, Westminster.

Boy Scout Troop 2007 plans golf tournament

Boy Scout Troop 2007 at St. Benjamin's Lutheran Church in Westminster will hold its second annual golf tournament April 25 at River Downs Golfers' Club in Finksburg.

Registration and practice will begin at noon, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner and awards will be held at 6 p.m.

Entry fee is $65 or $260 for a foursome if registered by today. After today, the cost is $75 and $300 per foursome.

Deadline for registration is April 11.

Cranberry Station pupil is poster contest winner

Elizabeth Welliver, a pupil at Cranberry Station Elementary School, is one of 12 statewide winners of the Maryland Association of Realtors annual Fair Housing poster contest.

The poster theme was "Housing Choices are Free in 2003." The 12 winning posters will be published in the fair housing calendar for 2003.

Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend will present the finalists with certificates and savings bonds at 4 p.m. tomorrow at the State House in Annapolis.

The contest is sponsored by the local associations of Realtors, who choose three posters to send to the state.
