Jean F. Sunderland, 79, Army budget analyst

Jean F. Sunderland, a longtime Army budget analyst at Fort Meade, died Wednesday of complications from cancer at Waters Edge nursing home in Palm City, Fla. The longtime Baltimore resident was 79.

Ms. Sunderland grew up in Govans and graduated from Eastern High School, then took a job as a civilian accountant with the Army. Over the next decade, she served as an analyst in Austria and Germany before returning to the United States in 1953.

At Fort Meade, she rose to become a senior budget analyst before retiring after 34 years of government employment. She moved to Florida in 1975.

She was a longtime parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Baltimore, and later at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Palm City, Fla.

Services will be private.

Ms. Sunderland is survived by a sister, Betty S. Latimer of Stuart, Fla.; a niece; and two nephews.
