Annapolis center announces trips for this year

Annapolis Senior Center, 1027 Bay Ridge Ave., has announced its trip schedule.

The trips include: Gettysburg, May 18; Atlantic City, June 13; boat trip to St. Michael's, July 15; Red Roost Crab feast, Aug. 13; Sight and Sound Dinner Theater, Sept. 11; Western Maryland train trip, Oct. 22; Dutch Apple Dinner Theater, Nov. 7; and Christmas in Williamsburg, Dec. 3-5.

10-week art class to be offered at Pascal

Pascal Senior Center is offering a class in acrylic and multimedia painting.

Anne Arundel Community College Program instructor Alice Yeager will demonstrate the use of watercolor-like washes including oil layering, scumbling and glazing, impasto and textural effects. Seniors at all levels of artistic ability are welcome.

The 10-week class will be offered from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Pascal Senior Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie beginning April 3. The cost is $20.

Health fair: Pascal Senior Center will sponsor a health fair from 9 a.m. to noon today at the center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie. Representatives from North Arundel Hospital will offer free pulmonary, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings. The fair also will include exhibits and information from the departments of Health and Aging and, at 10 a.m., a presentation on colorectal cancer prevention. Information: 410-222- 6680.

American family: South County Senior Center, 27 Stepneys Lane, Edgewater, will offer a class, "The American Family at the Crossroads," from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Instructor Art Hirsch will discuss how modern society affects family structure. The class is free. Information: 410- 222-1927.

Global economy: O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road, Odenton, will sponsor a one-day seminar, "Global Market Economy," from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. April 12. Instructor John Baer will cover topics including free monopoly markets and free competitive markets. The seminar is free. Registration is required. Information: 410-222-6227.

Language classes: South County Senior Center and Anne Arundel Community College will offer two 10-week language classes starting next month. A French course is scheduled from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Mondays. A Spanish course is scheduled from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays. The cost is $20 for age 60 and older, $60 ($20 administration fee and $40 tuition) for ages 55 to 59. Classes will be held at the center, 27 Stepneys Lane, Edgewater. Information: 410-222-1927.

Senior trips: South County Senior Center in Edgewater has scheduled a series of trips, including: Palace of Gold ("America's Taj Mahal") in Wheeling, W.Va., April 16 to 18; and Winterthur Museum and Gardens and Wyeth House and Studio in Delaware on May 3. Caregivers conference: "Caregiving: Meeting the Challenges," the 10th annual caregivers conference sponsored by the county Department of Aging, the Central Maryland chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and Anne Arundel Community College, will be held May 10 at the college. The goal of the conference is to offer support to family caregivers and present information to professional caregivers. The cost is $15, which includes meals and supplies.
