2001 The Crossings Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, Awatere...

Wine of the week

March 27, 2002|By Michael Dresser

2001 The Crossings Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, Awatere Valley ($16). This dramatic sauvignon blanc from New Zealand blazes across the palate with concentrated, uncompromising flavors of pear, herbs, juniper and -- dare I say -- kiwi. The New Zealand sauvignon blancs aren't for everyone, but in the last decade or so, they have emerged as the most compelling "new" wine style on the planet. Serve this textbook example with seafood, salad or any spicy cuisine that is not sweet.
