NASCAR: Fined Dale Earnhardt Jr. $5,000 and Robby Gordon $10,000, and placed him on probation until Aug. 28, for intentionally running into each other's car in cool-down lap of Food City 500 on March 24. Fined Kevin Harvick $15,000, and placed him on probation until Aug. 28, for his actions in pits after Channellock 250 on March 23.


ANGELS: Optioned P Mickey Callaway to Triple-A Salt Lake.

ASTROS: Released P C.J. Nitkowski. Reassigned C Alan Zinter, IF Tripp Cromer and OF Chris Prieto to minor-league camp. Announced that P Doug Brocail (recovering from elbow surgery) and P Hipolito Pichardo (tendinitis in right elbow) will begin season on DL.

BREWERS: Reassigned P Francisco Campos to minor-league camp.

CARDINALS: Traded Triple-A OF Ernie Young to Diamondbacks for player to be named. Optioned P Kevin Joseph and OF William Ortega to Triple-A Memphis.

DEVIL RAYS: Released OF Troy O'Leary.

METS: Purchased contract of IF John Valentin.
