Lakefront cleanup set for April 13

The Columbia Waterfowl and Habitat Advisory Committee and Town Center Community Association will clean up Lake Kittamaqundi and the lakefront from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 13. Individuals, Scout troops and civic groups are welcome.

Participants should take rakes and gloves. The group will meet at the People Tree. The rain date is April 20. Registration is requested, but not necessary.

Popcorn Theater to show `October Sky' on April 5

Popcorn Theater, a new program of the Wilde Lake Community Association for elementary and middle school children on early-dismissal days, will show the movie October Sky at 2:30 p.m. April 5 at Slayton House in Wilde Lake Village Center.

Popcorn will be served. The cost is $2.

Returns to academy: Midshipman Clifton Jackson of River Hill has returned to the Merchant Marine Academy, where he is a student, after spending months at sea training aboard U.S. merchant vessels. The River Hill High School graduate is the son of Cliff and Florence Jackson of River Hill.

Play groups: Town Center Community Association is holding its spring session of Parents and Tots Play Groups this week at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road. A group for children ages 24 months and older began yesterday; for children ages 6 months to 24 months, today; and for children ages 6 months to 4 years, tomorrow. The 10-week sessions are held from 10 a.m. to noon. Juice is provided. The cost is $25 for Columbia Association lien-payers; $27.50 for others.
