Recent rainfall leads Health Department to lift open-burning ban

Carroll County Health Department, in consultation with the Carroll County Fire Chiefs Association, has determined that recent rainfall has reduced hazardous conditions that had existed in the county.

Effective immediately, the Health Department is lifting the open-burning ban that was imposed recently. However, drought conditions remain and the burn ban might have to be reimposed.

Middle school conference to address race relations

The Middle School Multicultural Leadership Conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Western Maryland College.

About 250 middle school pupils will attend the event, sponsored by Carroll Citizens for Racial Equality and Carroll County public schools.

Pupils will share ideas for advancing racial equality and multicultural relationships through small group sessions and discussions.

Presentations will include a cultural event from Bowling Brook Preparatory School and Native American dancers.
