Tom Angelis, teacher, announces he'll run for county executive

Davidsonville resident Tom Angelis, a Baltimore high school teacher and former county department head, has announced that he will run for county executive in the September primary election.

Angelis, 55, a Republican, was in charge of Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks for about a year under former County Executive John G. Gary. Angelis has lived in the county since 1974 and is an active member of the county Republican Party.

Angelis likely will face former state Del. Phillip D. Bissett, 45, in the Republican primary election. Bissett has not formally announced his candidacy but is raising money and polling voters.

Hearing tonight to allow comment on annexation bill

A bill that would allow property annexations to be approved by a majority vote of the Annapolis city council is among the items on which the public may comment at a council hearing scheduled for tonight.

Annexations now require a two-thirds vote to be approved.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. in council chambers in City Hall on Duke of Gloucester Street.
