A student leaving a night program at Oakland Mills High School in Columbia was robbed of money and his tennis shoes by three young men about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, Howard County police said.

Robert Charles Logan, 18, and Joseph Edward Fletcher, 20, both of the 9300 block of Reader Lane in Columbia, were charged yesterday in connection with the crime.

Police said they arrested a juvenile male Wednesday night who fit the description of the third suspect. His name was not released because he is a minor.

Last month, police reported 11 street robberies -- those that do not take place inside a business. Eight of those robberies were in the southern part of the county that includes North Laurel and Savage, according to police statistics.

The victim, also a minor, was assaulted during the robbery, which occurred in the 9400 block of Kilimanjaro Road, police said.

Police are investigating whether the juvenile and the three people arrested knew one another, said county police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn.

Logan and Fletcher are each charged with robbery, second-degree assault and theft of less than $500, according to court documents. Fletcher faces an additional charge of marijuana possession, court documents state.

Fletcher pleaded guilty in late February to a Howard County charge of concealing a deadly weapon, according to court documents. In that case, a judge gave him probation before judgment, which will end Feb. 20, court documents show.

Court dates for the charges from Wednesday's case had not been set.
