Race, parade to affect parking, buses

Parking restrictions and street closures will take effect and eight downtown buses will be rerouted between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday for the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Shamrock 5K Run, city transportation and Maryland Transit Administration officials announced.

Parking restrictions will be imposed on sections of Mount Vernon Place, Market Place and Pratt, Centre, Charles and Conway streets from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

No parking will be allowed on Mount Vernon Place from St. Paul to Cathedral streets; Centre Street from Cathedral to St. Paul; Charles from Mount Vernon to Conway; Market Place from Pratt to Lombard streets; the south side of Conway Street from Charles to Light Street; and the north side of Pratt from Gay Street to Market Place.

Charles Street from Conway to Madison, and Centre from Cathedral to St. Paul will be closed at 1:30 p.m. Pratt Street from Howard Street to President Street and South Street at Lombard will be closed at 1:45 p.m.

MTA bus lines 1, 3, 7, 10, 11, 14, 19 and 31 will be diverted to accommodate the foot race, which starts at 1:40 p.m. at Charles and Franklin streets, proceeds south on Charles, and continues on several streets to the Inner Harbor finish line at the Power Plant.

The parade begins forming at 1 p.m. at the Washington Monument, and is expected to last three hours. The route runs south on Charles to Pratt, and the procession ends at Market Place.
