Orioles 6, Dodgers 5

March 14, 2002

The game

The Orioles scored four seventh-inning runs off Los Angeles Dodgers closer candidate Matt Herges to extend their winning streak to six games with a 6-5 victory in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. David Segui singled home Howie Clark with the winning run, and the Orioles' bullpen kept the Dodgers scoreless over the final three innings.

The arms

The Orioles tested three of their right-handed relief candidates, each for one inning, and Kris Foster looked shaky. Facing his former team, Foster gave up three runs on four hits. Willis Roberts and Jorge Julio both pitched scoreless innings, with Roberts getting the win and Julio notching the save.

The bats

The Orioles had 10 hits, and all were singles. Seven of those came in the seventh inning. In order, they came from Larry Bigbie, Jose Leon, Fernando Lunar, Howie Clark, Luis Garcia, Segui and Jeff Conine. Bigbie and Lunar each finished with two hits apiece.

Injury update

Melvin Mora (broken left ring finger, strained left calf) will make his spring debut tonight against the Montreal Expos in Jupiter, Fla. Jason Johnson, who pitched a four-inning simulated game after missing his last Grapefruit League start with a cracked fingernail, will return to the mound tonight.

The number

8 - Days since the last Orioles loss. They tied the Boston Red Sox on March 7.
