D. LaMonica, Mollot power Maryland over Bucknell, 16-6

Dan LaMonica and Mike Mollot had five points apiece to lead No. 5 Maryland to a 16-6 victory over Bucknell yesterday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa.

The Terrapins (4-1) sprinted to a 5-1 lead after 19 minutes of play, before Patrick Christensen and Dennis Geraghty, who led the Bison with two goals each, scored to cut Maryland's lead to 5-3.

After Bison freshman John Salvesen made it 10-4 with an extra-man goal, the Terps scored six straight goals, each by a different player, to take its largest lead of the day at 16-4 with 11:14 left.

Thirteen Terps scored goals, including defenders Chris Passavia and Michael Howley.

Villa Julie 16, Eastern College 1: The host Mustangs (2-2, 2-0) routed the Eagles in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game behind four goals and four assists from Bob Rinehimer (Hereford) and six goals from Dan Velez (Fallston).


Catholic 13, Goucher 11: Despite jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the first eight minutes, the host Gophers (2-1, 1-1 Capital Athletic Conference) suffered their first loss of the season to the Cardinals (2-2, 1-0).

Goucher took its final lead on an unassisted goal by Muffie Bliss, who broke a 4-4 tie with 13:30 remaining in the first half.

Ashley Snyder scored four of her game-high five goals in the second half for Goucher.

William Smith 19, Washington College 8: Amanda Wynn and Megan Shea scored four goals each, as the Herons (1-0) dominated the Shorewomen (1-2) in Panama City, Fla.

Janet Studdiford scored four goals for Washington College.
