Keen on green

McCormick & Co. has recipes that will bring green to your table on St. Patrick's Day: To make green beer, add 5 drops of green food coloring to 12 ounces of beer. Turn nondairy whipped topping green with 12 drops of green and two drops of yellow food coloring. For other tips, log on to www.mccormick.com or call 800-632-5847.

Saving books

The International Association of Culinary Professionals and KitchenAid have teamed up to identify, restore and preserve endangered cookbooks. As many as 100 books will be restored in the first year in the name of longtime IACP member Julia Child.

Edible Art Competition

The term "culinary arts" takes on a new meaning at Catonsville High School's eighth annual Edible Art Competition on Tuesday. Anyone may enter; just bring your creations to the school cafeteria at 421 Bloomsbury Ave. by 6 p.m. The show opens at 6:30 p.m. Admission is a nonperishable food item, which will be donated to a local food pantry, or $1. Contact Marilyn Feit, 410-887-0808.
