E. Roosevelt pulls surprise on T. Johnson

Boys Class 4A final

COLLEGE PARK - Eleanor Roosevelt of Prince George's County, which entered the Class 4A boys basketball state tournament as No. 10 regional seed, upset Thomas Johnson of Frederick, 50-45, in the championship game at Cole Field House last night.

Victor Akinyanju, Edward Young and Jeremy Bruce each scored 14 points for the Raiders (16-12), who routed Mervo, 74-41, in Thursday's semifinal round.

Jermaine Thomas had nine points for Thomas Johnson (25-2), which had its 19-game winning streak snapped.

Marshall Jackson stole a pass and scored with seven seconds left to secure the win for the Raiders.

It was the final state high school boys championship game at Cole Field House. The tournament will likely switch to the new Comcast Center next year.

Boys Class 2A

Wicomico 72, Central 50: Wicomico finished their season with a 28-0 record and the state crown.

The Falcons missed a chance to send coach Warren Fulton, who is retiring after 22 years and three state titles, out on a winning note.
