March 10, 2002|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Two Westminster youths were injured yesterday when the car in which they were riding and a van collided in Winfield, Maryland State Police said.

The teen-agers, both 17, were eastbound on Route 26 in a 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier when the driver, trying to turn left onto Salem Bottom Road, turned into the path of a 1996 Dodge conversion van, said state police Sgt. Kevin Utz. Route 26 was closed in both directions for several hours.

The teen-agers, whose names were not released, were flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Utz said one of the teens was stable and that the other was in critical condition.

Three Manchester women who were in the van were taken to Carroll County General Hospital, where they were treated and released.
