Salisbury's women fall in Div. III NCAA

Marymount deals Gulls 79-51 sectional defeat

The Salisbury women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start and poor shooting, falling to visiting Marymount, 79-51, in a Division III, NCAA tournament sectional semifinal before 420 at the Maggs Center in Salisbury last night.

The Sea Gulls, whose season ended with a 24-4 record, shot just 29 percent from the field. They trailed 34-20 at halftime.

The Saints (23-6) will play King's College in today's sectional final. Marymount had three players in double figures, led by Jodie Knotts' 21 points. Knotts was eight-for-13 from the field and made four of six three-pointers.

Candice Brown scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Marymount.

Katie Jarvis contributed 12 points and seven rebounds and Ashlee Brown was the fourth Saint in double figures with 11 points.

Cyndi Benjamin came off the bench to lead the Sea Gulls in scoring with 15 points, though she was just six-for-17. Pam Kenney and Jaime Kohlenstein had nine points apiece.
