Calvary Church holding Lenten lunches, services

Mount Airy community churches are holding Lenten lunches and devotional services from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays through March 20 at Calvary United Methodist Church.

The lunches are free and all are welcome. Child care will be available during services. An offering will be taken each week to support the work of Mount Airy NET, which provides food and financial help to residents in need.

The churches that will provide lunch and lead the service are: Locust Grove Church of the Brethren on Wednesday; and Prospect/Marvin Chapel UMC on March 20.

Lions Club schedules basket bingo March 22

Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club will hold basket bingo March 22 at Winfield fire hall, 1320 W. Old Liberty Road.

Proceeds will benefit the club's scholarship fund for South Carroll High School seniors.

South Carroll High to hold leadership conference

South Carroll High School will hold its eighth annual Leadership Conference on March 15 at Carroll Community College in Westminster.

More than 200 South Carroll High students will attend workshops in the morning and work sessions in the afternoon. During the work sessions, students will develop a plan to improve the school.

Community leaders, school personnel and students will make presentations.

American Legion Post to offer bull, oyster roast

American Legion Post 191 Squadron will hold its annual bull and oyster roast March 16 at the post home in Mount Airy.

Food will be served from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Allen Brown & the Wishing Well will play dance music from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Tickets are $24 for adults only. The post home is at 801 Prospect Road.

Fund-raiser to feature bingo, prize drawing

American Legion Post 191 of Mount Airy will hold a "40 X 8" Bonanza fund-raiser from 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. March 23 at the post.

The evening will include bingo with cash prizes, other games, drawings up to $500 and a full buffet dinner. The dinner will include fried chicken, roast beef, parsleyed potatoes, corn, coleslaw, rolls and fruit cup.

Tickets are $15 for adults only. A cash bar will be available. Tickets should be purchased in advance.

Library to present stories, `The Velveteen Rabbit'

The Mount Airy library branch, 705 Ridge Ave., will offer several activities.

"Year-round Story Time" for all ages (age 3 and younger must be with an adult) will feature Furry Friends at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday, and Naughty & Nice at 11 a.m. today.

"Teen Book Buddies" for all ages will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Local teen volunteers will read stories in an informal setting.

The Drama Conservatory will present Margery Williams' The Velveteen Rabbit at 11 a.m. March 16 for all ages.
