`Hello Dolly' to be staged at middle school

Severna Park Middle School pupils are preparing for their production of the musical Hello Dolly this month.

Stars of the show, which will be presented at 7 p.m. March 21 through 23 and at 2 p.m. March 23, are Anya Lamb, Ryan French, Chelsea Reich and Kirstie Menzies. KerryAnne Kennedy will direct the show. Musical accompaniment for the production will be provided by Anne Arundel County public school students and professional musicians. Information, tickets: 410-544-0203.

Navy graduate: Navy Hospitalman Jamise B. Trapp, daughter of Irma and James W. Trapp of Severn, recently graduated from Basic Hospital Corps School at Naval Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes, Ill. Trapp is a 1999 graduate of Old Mill Senior High School in Millersville.

Military nominations: U.S. Rep. Wayne T. Gilchrest recently nominated several local students to attend the Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. They are: Colin Finnegan, son of Bridget Ray of Arnold; Ries Korstjens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frans Korstjens of Arnold; Patrick Flavin, son of Stephen and Eileen Flavin of Arnold; Keith Bierman, son of Scott and Jacalyn Bierman of Crownsville; and Robert West, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert West of Millersville.

New officers: Severna Park Ladies of the Elks installed officers for 2002. They are: Fran Whittington, president; Lorraine Fiehn, vice president; Jo Pickwoad, treasurer; Lynn Groves, recording secretary; and Rita Gair, corresponding secretary.

Divorce workshops: The YWCA is sponsoring several workshops. "Mediation for Separation/Divorce and Family" is scheduled for today, "Emotional Aspects of Separation and Divorce" will be March 14, "Legal Aspects of Separation and Divorce" will be March 21, and "Practical Aspects of Separation and Divorce" will be March 28 at the YWCA Building, 1517 Ritchie Highway, Arnold. Genealogical Society: Anne Arundel Genealogical Society will meet at 7:30 tonight at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road. Fred W. Long live rock: Severna Park High School will hold its 13th annual Rock 'n' Roll Revival, at which more than 200 Severna Park students, graduates, faculty members and parents put on a show of choreography and rock 'n' roll hits from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday, 7:30 p.m. March 14 and 8 p.m. March 15 and 16. Bird walk: Ranger Brian of Kinder Farm Park in Millersville will lead a Morning Bird Walk at 8 o'clock March 16, beginning at the park, 1001 Kinder Farm Park Road. Participants will look for the first of the spring migrants. Bring binoculars. Information: 410-222- 6115.

Bagel Walkers: Severna Park Bagel Walkers, a program designed to encourage healthful lifestyles through exercise, will begin this year's program at 8 a.m. March 18, when a bagpiper will lead a procession of walkers from Chesapeake Bagel Bakery at 552 I Ritchie Highway in Severna Park to the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail. Female musicians: Jazz enthusiast Sherrie Tucker will give a talk, "Nobody's Sweethearts: Gender, Race, Jazz and `the Darlings of Rhythm,'" at 7:30 p.m. March 22 in the Humanities Building, Room 112, at Anne Arundel Community College's Arnold campus. Tucker will discuss female musicians during World War II, and the harassment and prejudice they encountered. She will use musical recordings, video clips and photographs. The talk is free. Run/walk: Walkers and runners can help raise money for Severna Park High School's Parent Teacher Student Organization by participating in the annual Family Fun Run/Walk at 9 a.m. April 6. Participants can choose to run 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) or walk 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles). The event will begin at the high school and follow the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail.
