Salisbury women win 9th straight, advance to Division III's round of 16

SALISBURY - Jaime Kohlenstein scored 14 points and Rachel Lanning and Pam Kenney each added 10 to lead Salisbury to a 67-49 victory over Kean yesterday in the second round of the NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament.

The Sea Gulls (24-4) won their ninth straight, tied a single-season record for wins and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time. They will face Marymount, a 75-62 winner over Christopher Newport, on Friday.

Trailing 6-1, Salisbury used a 23-2 run over a span of 10:05 to build a 24-8 lead with 6:55 left in the first half.

The Sea Gulls, who led 31-14 at the half, forced 42 Kean turnovers.

Jaquanna Abdullah scored 21 points to lead the Cougars (20-9), who were champions of the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
