Calling all munchkins

Children's Wear Digest, a kids' clothing catalog retailer, is holding a contest to find cover kids for its holiday issue. If you think your munchkins have a shot, grab their cutest photos and mail them along with your kids' vital stats (names, ages, clothing sizes) to CWD Model Search, P.O. Box 2190, Glen Allen, VA 23058, by April 8.

Ten finalists will be picked and posted online at www.cwdkids.com, where the public can vote on their faves. The winner gets a $500 CWD shopping spree, a trip to Richmond, Va., for the photo shoot and cutest-kid bragging rights for Mom.

Where Wang went wrong

Vera Wang: we know her -- and love her -- as the divine dressmaker, designer of the best gowns ever. But we're not so keen on her latest venture, Vera Wang Fragrance.

The scent, her first, is nowhere near as exceptional or singular as her dresses, but the prices are undeservedly comparable (a 1-ounce bottle of the "parfum" runs $300, and a bar of scented soap sells for $20). It's described as a "modern floral bouquet," and you can pick out the rose and gardenia influences and a little of the white wood in the collection -- which also includes bath gel and body creme -- but mostly it just smells powdery and flowery, much like a hundred other less expensive scents on the market. Check it out for yourself at Saks Fifth Avenue or, beginning in April, at Nordstrom.
