GM predicts gain in profit for quarter, plans to increase output

In a show of optimism, General Motors Corp. predicts a 20 percent profit gain for the first quarter and earnings of $4.65 a share for all of 2002. The automaker also says it has plans to increase production because of better-than-expected U.S. sales. [Page 1d]
